Well, it took me over a week, but I’ve calmed down for the most part. You see, I’ve been way to upset to even write a coherent post. I think it would have been something like &@$*@(&!!! Because. My boyfriend. Totaled. My. Car.
Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a 2009 Toyota Yaris. I love the new car! But I miss my Mirage. I really really loved that car. It was my first car. Now it is at my mechanic’s shop waiting for someone from the salvage yard to come tow it away.
I cannot even remotely afford the new car right now either. My parents are helping me with the payments until I graduate (after Spring semester) and hopefully will be able to get a decent job.
I went to the doctor who did the EGD today. He said I have acid reflux, and I’m basically not supposed to eat or drink anything good. He doesn’t want to keep me on the Nexium for long “because I’m young” so I am supposed to stick to this really bland diet. No caffeine, no alcohol, nothing fried, don’t smoke (I need to quit anyway). No sodas, no chocolate, no tomatoes, no citrus, blah. But he says if I do this, I will get better and not need pills for it. I hope so because right now Nexium rocks my world.
I’m supposed to get that paper back tomorrow. I aced the test, and that’s weighted more heavily than the paper, so it’s ok if I didn’t do great. I thought I covered everything he asked, and there wasn’t a length requirement, but when I talked to other students, it sounds like I have about 15 pages less than most. Oh well.
New theme! What do you think?
I broke down and actually paid money for this one because I couldn’t find a free one that I was really happy with, and I have neither the time nor inclination to mess around with trying to make one right now. I’m planning to update the About page soon because there isn’t really much on there now, so I think I’ll expand it a bit. Someday I will go back and tag and categorize all the old posts and fix all the Amazon links because they don’t work anymore with out the Quick Link widget (nevermind, got that figure out).
I need to return comments and catch up on blog reading too. I don’t know exactly when I will end up getting all of this done because I’ve got a huge project due next week and I really need to get to work.
Happy talk like a pirate day!
Okay, I know the day that I saw the new X-Files movie, I griped about how much it sucked. But that doesn’t diminish my love of classic X-Files. (The last 2 seasons, I thought, were awful, the first 5 were great, and 6 and 7 were mediocre. Just for the record.) I have an insane collection of X-Files collectibles and memorabilia, but there’s always room for more! Well….maybe not so much room, but I always want more.
I got the majority of my collection about 10 years ago, when the first movie came out. I had my first job, a summer tech support job, full-time with a decent wage, and I spent a lot of that money on X-Files stuff. I got all of the action figures, movie poster, t-shirt, and all of the VHS boxed sets (they were like $40 each at the time, and there were 8 sets.) I also have all the novels, comics, trading cards, film cels, books on different seasons, and a whole bunch more stuff. The last X-Files thing I bought was the complete series DVD collector’s edition boxed set. I never did get the X-Files: Fight the Future Barbie and Ken dolls set, and I really want more film cels. Man, I miss the good old days when the X-Files was in its heyday, and when I didn’t have anything better to spend my money on than X-Files merchandise. ![]()
Dragon Blogger wrote a post about energy drinks, which made me think about my beloved Josta (R.I.P), so I thought I’d take this opportunity to talk about my favorite discontinued beverage.
I’m not big on energy drinks. They don’t really seem to do anything for me, and most of them taste awful. I only like Red Bull with Jagermeifter.
By itself it tastes kinda like Robitussin to me. I do like the flavor of the Sobe drinks but they do a number on my stomach. Bleh.
The greatest energy drink of ALL TIME, and perhaps the first, was Josta. It was actually a soda/energy drink, with a unique flavor. I don’t know if it provided much of an energy boost, but damn it was good. Most people I’ve mentioned it to have never heard of it. It’s been off the market for nearly 10 years now anyway. They sold it in the vending machines at my high school, which I believe is the only place I ever saw it for sale, so perhaps poor distribution is one of the reasons it failed. Pepsi, bring back Josta! Please!
At least I can finally prove I didn’t make it up, because there’s a whole site about it. With pictures! Has anyone else out there ever heard of Josta? Aside from the folks that run the Save Josta site?
I usually do pretty well on tests, but I just took the Bills IQ quiz, and I got a 77%. It’s broken down into sections, and each one just got progressively worse.
- Credit: 88 - Okay, I’m doing alright!
- Debt: 87 - Cool, still doing well…
- Budget: 70 - Well, I knew I needed a little help in that department, and it’s really not all my fault…
- Wealth: 72 - Well, no kidding, I know I have nothing right now…
- Life Plan: 68 - Now, that’s a little unfair. I’m still in school for another year! I don’t have to have my whole future planned out, right?
When you’re done with the quiz, there is some advice about how to improve your score. Credit counseling is one option suggested, but there’s other stuff about budgeting, saving, investing, and generally planning for the future. Then there’s a little graph to compare your score with others that fit your demographic profile. In most areas, my score was below average. ![]()
Honestly, I don’t think it’s all that bad though. I’m really concerned about paying off my student loans. But I don’t have to start making payments on those until after I graduate, at which point I will hopefully be making enough money that it won’t be a big deal. I don’t have any credit cards, I don’t have a car payment, the only debt I have is my student loans. And one thing that I have read over and over is that the expense of a college education is well worth it because you’re making an investment.
This haiku pretty much sums up my situation:
so broke I must be
until my college degree
then I’ll have money
I’ve been trying to lose a little weight and get into better shape lately. I’ve been doing yoga and exercising on the treadmill and elliptical, cooking healthier meals, and I’m already feeling better and lost a few pounds (I’ve only been at this a few weeks!) I’m really stoked because I have hypothyroidism which makes it more difficult to lose weight than it used to be for me.
Anyway, I got bored of my DVDs and decided to get a couple new ones. One of them was Fat Free Yoga. Looking past the silly title, I felt like it was a good choice due to having 126 reviews with a 5 star rating. I received the DVD and attempted to watch it today. This is the one of the funniest, stupidest things I have ever seen! She pants like a dog with her tongue stuck out, chants, and is basically smirking the entire time looking like she is trying not to laugh because even she knows how stupid it is!
I went back to the product page to see if there were really some negative reviews that I overlooked, and discovered on the forum that the negative reviews are promptly removed! Not just for this DVD, but for all the Ana Brett & Ravi Singh DVDs. What a scam. I feel like I’ve been duped.
About 4 years ago, my dad had to have angioplasty. We were lucky that his heart condition was discovered before he actually had a heart attack. I worry about him, and now I know I have a family history of heart disease. So heart health is an issue very close to me. If someone close to you has heat problems, you will want to learn how to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack. Even if you just want to learn more about heart health in general, HeartLibrary.com is a great resource.
Ok, I officially have the coolest parents ever. They just gave me that GPS unit, and then last night they gave me a new digital camera! It’s red (one of my favorite colors), and it’s 7 megapixels whereas my old camera was only 2 megapixels. I mean, truly, the camera in my phone is better than my old digital camera. The new one is much smaller, too! Pretty, takes great pictures, portable…what’s not to love?!
Now I just need to find some cool things to take pictures of!
