So, for one of my assignments, I have to make my predictions on what shows will succeed and which will be prematurely cancelled, focusing on the ABC network. (Yes, this is an actual college assignment!) Looking up the schedule, I found a new game show called Opportunity Knocks, hosted by J.D. Roth. I was like, damn that name sounds familiar. So I looked up good ol’ J.D. on the IMDB. OMG, he was the host of GamePro! I know a lot of my readers are far too young to remember this show…hell, I think a lot of you weren’t even born yet! Way to make me feel old, guys!
Anyway, my brother and I used to watch this show when we were kids. I immediately put Opportunity Knocks on my cancelled list, because, um..J.D. Roth! Just look at this!
And no, I don’t expect any of you to actually watch the whole thing. ![]()
I know I’ve talked before about my love of video games. But sometimes I just don’t feel like getting out the console or Zack is watching TV or he is using the console, etc. So sometimes, I like to Play Free Games online. Because free is much better than, say, buying a game, and then paying even more for a subscription to allow you to actually play the game, which really makes no sense to me whatsoever.
Anyway…on the topic of free games, it’s always nice to be able to Play Arcade Games without throwing away a bunch of quarters (I like to save those for vending machine sodas and those rigged claw machines with the stuffed animals you can’t win). I don’t really like to Play Action Games as much as, say, RPGs, but in every genre, I find something that’s really addictive and fun or, in some cases, just so twisted and bizarre that they can keep my interest. Take Los Simpsons for example. I’ve just discovered this, but it’s so weird and messed up that I can’t stop playing it.
Now my site is down completely. Thanks to the magic of MacJournal, I can write this now and post it whenever the hell my site works again! If you are trying to access it right now, you are probably seeing something like this:

Lucky for me, I’ve already signed up with Lunarpages. Unluckily, I hadn’t backed everything up yet when this happened. That actually is what I was about to do when this happened! I e-mailed their support (because totally awesome hosting companies like Dreamhost will only talk to you on the phone when you pay them extra.) I’m just waiting to see what they come up with this time. My support history page shows 3 pages of back-and-forth emails with them over the one year that I’ve been with them. I’ve had websites for 10 years, and rarely needed to talk to support before Dreamhost.
I’ll be moving everything over when I can access my files.
Added: It’s back up now! (A few hours later.) I received a response from support.
I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems. I just checked and the website is accessible both via http and ftp. Can you please check again for yourself and let me know if you are still unable to connect?
See, this is part of my issue with them. I only get a response after things are okay, which makes me think that they did something to make it okay, but it’s always sorta implied that it was something on my end, and I’m either an idiot or crazy. Or maybe I’m just reading to much into it. But it’s never like “oh, there was an issue with your server, it’s all better now.”
I really wanted to like Dreamhost. I had heard good things about them. But, my experience was not so good. See ya, Dreamhost, I’m moving!
Seriously. I want a different one. But I’ve just finally managed to get to like..2 visitors per day. And if I moved, I would have to start aaallll over again.
Also? Captcha is damn annoying. I tried like 12 times to leave a comment on someone’s blog, and it kept telling me to enter the letters correctly..which I DID. Repeatedly. I am positively baffled because there was another comment on the same entry.
Also? My site has been loading insanely slowly, which you may have noticed if you are reading this. Thanks again, Dreamhost. Your incompetence knows no bounds.
Here’s the thing. I feel like I can’t really write anything terribly personal here because I do some paid blogging. And I really need the extra money from that, so I can’t really stop.
I really want to go back to my old domain. However, I don’t really feel like I can go back to blogging there because I don’t particularly want my ex-husband cyber-stalking me and keeping tabs on what I’ve been up to in the years since we’ve been divorced. However, I don’t really feel all that intimidated because, last I heard, he lived in another state. The thought of him reading it still just seems a little creepy and weird though. But I think he’s finally moved on because he finally stopped with the e-mails/voicemails after we’d been divorced for a year.
Why the obsession with my other domain? My dad got it for me as a Christmas present when I was sixteen..10 years ago, back when domains and hosting were still actually pretty expensive. So yes, my parents could read whatever on there if they wanted to, but they never really did. I talked about skipping school when I was 17 and they never said anything about it, because they never read it. I said, “please don’t read this section of my site” and they didn’t (I have some cool parents, huh?). Zack already told me he doesn’t read my blog. He doesn’t “get” blogging. He knows I tell him everything anyway, so what is the point of reading what you already heard that day, that you were there for anyway.
And yeah, I could just get another new domain or use my livejournal or something for the more personal posts. But dammit, it’s just not the same. That was where I shared my most intimate thoughts with strangers for 8 years. I’ve tried livejournal, and this, and it’s just not the same.
Anyway, don’t mind me. I’m just venting. That’s what blogs are for, right?
No, I’m not that conceited. But you know what I really hate about using my laptop for extended periods of time? It gets really hot, which ends up overheating me as well. So then I have to take a little break and go outside to cool off, and I usually end up just setting the computer on the bed, which the manual says is bad, so I shouldn’t do it, but I always forget somehow. I tried using a lap pad/desk/whatever it’s called, but it’s just big, weird, and uncomfortable to sit around with. I need to find something else to do to keep this thing from getting so hot! Anyway, I need to go stand outside for a few, and I should probably shut down for the night anyway, ‘cause it’s getting really late.
Being an extremely broke college student, I’m always looking for ways to make money online. I was recently approved for Bloggerwave, a paid blogging site. If you have a blog, you can sign up on their site to write paid review, buzz, or opinion posts for them. I haven’t gotten a chance to do any other posts for them yet, but I’m always up for a little extra cash, and the site sounds promising.
I finally got around to upgrading my Wordpress install! Hurray. Not that it makes any difference to my readers, but what’s this strange feeling I have? It’s…of accomplishment.
Doesn’t seem to take much these days to get that feeling. Maybe I should have taken summer classes because I’m so incredibly bored with nothing to do. I need to find more stuff to post on Ebay.
This morning, I got an e-mail from Dreamhost stating that I owed them $119.40, which had been past due since 2008-11-20. Umm..yeah. Well, before I hit “send” on my reply to that, I thought to check their status blog, because for some reason they seem to like posting stuff there rather than e-mailing everyone. They had billed everyone for December 31, 2008. It doesn’t appear that my card was charged, and they say they’re refunding everyone’s money, but what?! They can’t double-check their stuff before billing all their customers, for a total of 7.5 million dollars?! “Oops” indeed.
I think complaining about it made my teeth hurt worse. Is that possible? I’m going to make a dentist appointment tomorrow.
So, I logged into my BlogMad account today and was shocked to find a message stating that I’d been voted Blog of the Day. This is odd for three reasons:
- My blog is not very popular, by any means.
- My blog rank on their page is 0.
- The awards page they directed me to does not have me on it.
So, maybe they just select a blog at random and make it Blog of the Day? Well, I guess an award’s an award, so…yay!(?)
